My Video BYO Cutlery Wins Justice Literary Competition!

How often do you use plastic cutlery? This is not a question we often ask ourselves in our gleamingly convenient modern societies. I only began to ask myself this question in the last couple of years. And once I noticed, I couldn’t seem to unnotice. Lunch out with friends – plastic cutlery. Birthday party dinner – plastic cutlery. On an airplane – more plastic cutlery. Even when I bought an ice cream cone, the little plastic spoon on top would sour the taste for me. I couldn’t seem to justify the environmentally ravaging process of plastic creation and disposal against its incredibly short lived usefulness. So a couple years ago I began carrying my own cutlery. I found it was not a lot of effort to save a lot of plastic.

I made my video BYO Cutlery to share my thinking and encourage action. I was honoured when it was awarded winner of the 2018 Justice Literary Writing Competition by the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice & Community Education!

Have a watch and next time you go out to eat, consider if you too can BYO cutlery :)
